How do essential oils work?

The limbic system in our brain, plays a major role in emotions, sense of smell, behavior, and long-term memory. 

When the aromas from essential oils are inhaled,it stimulates areas of our limbic system. This further triggers our memories or emotions. Several unconscious physiological functions like blood pressure, breathing, and heart rate are partially controlled by the limbic system. Hence a lot of people have experienced a physical effect on their body after using essential oils.

Essential oils have some chemicals elements that can interact with the human body In numerous ways.  

Topical application, as the name suggests, involves the application of essential oils on the skin with proper dilution, wherein the essential oil is blended with carriers like cream, lotion, gel, or oil. 

This gives a soothing effect if gently massaged on inflamed skin. It helps in reducing the pain, discomfort and burning sensation caused due to minor burns.

Essential oils are equally effective on people who have lost or have a reduced sense of smell. The chemicals present in essential oils have a physiological effect on the human body which proves that inhaling not only heals the health conditions but also gradually improves the sense of smell.
